bali

While part of the Indonesian nation, the tiny island of Bali has an identity of its own.

Diving, snorkeling, surf and parties will always be obvious draw cards for this island, so close to Australia. While there are ‘little Australia’ hubs, a Balinese experience doesn’t have to be only bogans, Bingtangs and beaches. Escape to quieter areas on the east and north coasts; hideaway into the hills (think lush green and rice paddies terraces) or you can tour Bali's plethora of temples. In the north and west you’ll find black sand beaches, the rural areas are decidedly just that or you can vamp it up in luxury villas.

Just watch out for all the 30+ women walking hoping to ‘find themselves’ (and a rich lover) a la that (ridiculously over-hyped) book and film Eat, Pray, Love.
