Despite concerted efforts, The Vietnam War (or American War depending on who you ask), did not destroy this country. Far from it, Vietnam has risen up economically and indeed as a must-see destination.

You can run around ticking off the war museums, the Viet Minh guerilla tunnels and Ha Long Bay, but the further flung you go the more there is to see and do. In the north the hill tribes and their indigo outfits and markets are worth a look. In Hanoi you can weave your way around the old quarter and the onslaught of traffic. Be sure to enjoy a spot of old world charm of (and bargain hunting) in Hoi An, sail the waters of Nha Trang and take in beaches, mountain tranquility as well as temples and tombs. You won’t have any shortage of culture, history and beauty and all the while you’ll be slurping down your pho (noodle soup) and getting buzzed on Vietnamese coffee.
