Divine art, stilettos, pasta that’s better than…well you know, the great renaissance men, more shoes. Yes, we are all familiar with the Italian attractions and allure and if we are in any doubt there rows and rows at the local bookstore describing the joys of spending a year off learning Italian while falling love in a village in Tuscany.

From porn stars to political scandal, the Italians don’t believe in doing anything by halves. Moving between north, south and central Italy you’ll encounter everything designer-fixated cool cats to the effervescent “grazie bella” pseudo-charming stereotypes to the “eat, eat” mamas and everything in between. Don’t let the hoardes discourage you – Florence, Venice, Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast are all popular because they are worth it. Travelling in the off-season may help. ‘Discover’ the Italian Alps and Sardinia and you’ll feel like you’ve found another Italy. In summary: tutti bene, tutti bene. It’s all good.
