THE GIBBON EXPERIENCE

The Gibbon Experience takes you deep into the jungles of northern Laos,
for four days of flying across the canopy using self-operated 'zip-lines',
essentially flying foxes strung across valleys.

Visitors spend their days zipping through this dense jungle: getting
a remarkable perspective on the forest around them. By night, they
sleep in treehouses, 40 metres above the forest floor.

You will LOVE!

  • zipping is, quite simply, ridiculously fun
  • the treehouses; whilst still basic, the series of treehouses throughout the forest are architectural wonders, providing a stunning spot from which to watch the sunset over the Bokeo jungle
  • the scenery; whilst the zipping is ace, it is genuinely challenging to take your eyes off the breathtaking views 360 degrees around you
  • this is 'eco-tourism' done very, very well; every visitor's stay is making a direct, genuine contribution to the protection of the Bokeo region
  • the toilet; there is something quite surreal squatting ten meters above the ground

You might NOT LIKE!

  • animal spotting; whilst you'll definitely hear plenty of wildlife kicking about in the jungle, actually seeing them can be tough
  • the cost; by Laotian standards, this is very expensive
  • if it's raining heavily on the day of your arrival, the road to the starting point of Ban Toup may be unaccessible, if this happens, expect a tough 5-hour hike in
