MAYOKA VILLAGE

Perched on the jungle-clad shores of Lake Malawi, Mayoka Village is the dream every traveller wished they lived. Run by an expat English pair, it's a village unto itself populated by kindred spirits who always plan on staying a few days and but almost without exception end up staying a few weeks, if not months.

The bar's lively, the view over the lake's a killer, the private inlet for swimming even better, the fresh food is to die for. There's everything from African drum-making workshops and trips down the coast for cliff diving to a Friday night barbeque feast.

There's a range of accommodation, all simple but more than comfy enough, and all built in a enviro-friendly manner. You will also like the local vibe: Mayoka has since it began been big into employing locals, and returning as much back to the community as possible through a variety of initiatives.

Your hosts, Catherine and Gary, make everyone feel like their best friend too.
